Tamil Nadu has been reporting surging cases for the past few days and the graph of the affected cases has been rising sharply amid the lockdown and restrictions.

David Beasley, the executive director of the World Food Programme has alarmed India that millions of people are facing hunger during COVID-19 lockdown.

The Central government has, on Friday, rolled out the new set of guidelines on how the nation should pedal through the extended spell of the lockdown.

The reports have indicated that the government is considering extending the lockdown for at least two more weeks beyond May 3 to curb the spread of the virus. 

Krishnagiri is the only district in Tamil Nadu to remain under the green zone as it has reported no positive case for the virus since the outbreak. 

The guidelines beyond May 3 would set out how the country will look like for the entire month to deal with the unprecedented ordeals of health care and economical crisis.

The decision of extending the lockdown beyond May 3 would be taken by the Chief Minister based on the recommendations and suggestions disclosed by the expert committee.

The current reporting has been the highest single-day rise in the number of positive cases recorded by the state since the outbreak.

The virtual meeting had lasted for three hours and was organized at the crucial time of penning the prefix of the decision on the lockdown extension.

The Ministry clarified that the operations of goods and parcel trains would be functioning normally with the view of transporting essential products.
