Corona outbreak: Tamil Nadu reports 121 fresh cases as the total crossed 2000!

The state of Tamil Nadu has reported 121 fresh cases that were tested positive for Coronavirus (COVID-19) on Tuesday taking the total number of affected cases to 2058 so far in its territory including the active, discharged, and deceased patients.

The current reporting has been the highest single-day rise in the number of positive cases recorded by the state since the outbreak and Tamil Nadu has become the seventh Indian state to record 2000 positive cases for the virus amid the complete lockdown and restrictions. The state health department has put out the official press release on the latest developments concerning the outbreak in the state.

 

According to the press release, the state has tested 1,01,874 samples so far including 7,093 that were tested on Tuesday of which 121 returned positive for the pandemic, as the current reporting has surpassed the previous tally of the highest single-day rise, which was recorded last month after the state reported 110 cases in a day. 

Of these 121 fresh cases, 80 are males while 41 are females and 103 cases belong to Chennai alone, as the capital has been witnessing soaring high cases each day and of the rest 18 cases, 12 belong to Chengalpattu, 3 belong to Kallakurichi, 2 are from Namakkal, and one belongs to Kancheepuram.

The press release stated that 30,692 people have been kept under home quarantine currently while 47 are in the government quarantine facilities. The state has reported 27 fresh discharges on Tuesday taking the total number of discharges to 1,128 so far and it also has reported a fresh fatality, as a 68-year-old male had passed away in Chennai, through which the death toll currently stands at 25. 

With the fresh cases, Chennai has become the most affected city in the state with reporting 673 positive cases so far, which is highest than any other district in the state whereas Krishnagiri continues to be the only district in the state with reporting no positive case for the virus. 

On Monday, the state reported 52 cases, and the number of fresh cases nearly doubled on Tuesday. As of Tuesday evening, the state has reported 2,058 positive cases of which 902 are active patients, 1,128 have been discharged while 25, including the new fatality, had succumbed to the virus and through the current numbers, it can be learned that the state has more discharged cases than the active patients.
