TN has 12 districts under red zone - Know here on where your district stands!

Tamil Nadu has been housing 12 districts in its territory that have been marked under Red Zone by the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare alarming the state government to grip up the mechanisms towards curbing the spread of the Coronavirus pandemic and to ensure that the state won't report further hotspots for the virus spread.

The state is just two days away to mark the end of the current spell of the extended lockdown and a sharp increase in the graph of the affected cases would likely leave the government towards considering extending the lockdown and restrictions beyond May 3. According to the reports, these 12 districts are part of the 130 districts that have been identified by the Center across the country as red zones, as on April 30.

According to the statement issued by the Secretary of Union Health Ministry, the districts were marked under red zones after the meeting that held on Thursday between the Chief Secretaries and the Health Secretaries of the states and meeting was organized two days after the virtual meeting held between the Prime Minister and the Chief Ministers of the States and Union Territories.

Based on the statement, Tamil Nadu has these 12 districts under Red Zones

  • Chennai, Tiruppur, Madurai, Chengalpattu, Namakkal, Thanjavur, Tiruvallur, Ranipet, Virudhunagar, Thiruvarur, Vellore, and Kancheepuram.

24 Districts that fall under Orange Zones,

  • Coimbatore, Tenkasi, Theni, Nagapattinam, Villupuram, Dindigul, Cuddalore, Karur, Salem, Tirupattur, Trichy, Thoothukudi, Kanyakumari, Ramanathapuram, Tirunelveli, Perambalur, Sivagangai, Erode, Nilgiris, Kallakurichi, Ariyalur, Pudukottai, Dharmapuri, and Tiruvannamalai have been marked under Orange Zones.
  • Krishnagiri is the only district in Tamil Nadu to remain under the green zone as it has reported no positive case for the virus since the outbreak.

However, the state of Tamil Nadu has been rolling out different factors to segregate the zones. According to the state government, Tamil Nadu has 26 districts under the red zones that are mapped based on its criteria. The state has been marking Red on the districts that reported 15 or more COVID-19 cases in less than four days while the districts would be colored in Orange if it had reported less than 15 or have reported no case for the 14 consecutive days while Green color would be given to the districts which had reported no case for 28 consecutive days.

Erode, Nilgiris and Thoothukudi had marked the feat of a 100% recovery rate in the state. As of Thursday evening, the state has reported 2,323 positive cases of which 1,035 are active patients, 1,258 have been discharged while 27 had succumbed to the virus.
