While the local court has initially ordered the police to remand the ADMK candidate in judicial custody, he was awarded conditional bail later.

51-year-old Ayyappan was a DMK candidate for the upcoming polls and he was contesting from Athani in the Anthiyur Taluk of Erode district.

The polls will be held on February 19 and the votes will be counted on February 22nd. 

Following his demise, the district administration has announced that the election in that particular ward where Kani was contesting will be deferred.

Selvam had met Chief Minister MK Stalin and officially joined back the DMK, the party in which he alleged that there is no future for the functionaries above 55 years. 

The party has blamed the state ruling DMK for its role in the death and the state election commission has deferred the election in that particular ward where the candidate was being fielded.

ADMK Coordinator O Panneerselvam has made what seems to be a miraging prediction during the campaign for the upcoming urban local body polls. 

The top leaders are playing a blame game around the national exam, which has amplified a locking-horn battle between DMK and ADMK. 

On the other hand, the police had issued an official statement concerning the attack and said that Vinoth had hurled the petrol bomb after the BJP had supported the NEET. 

"We condemn the Tamil Nadu government's role in this incident. We have also informed the police. BJP cadres don't get intimidated by such attacks", Thiagarajan added.
