About 1.25 lakh people in Chennai have received their Covid-19 vaccine shots on Thursday, which is three times high than the daily average of 30,000.

A total of 37,04,807 shots of vaccine have been administered in Chennai so far as of August 24th including 24,794 shots that were administered on August 24th.

Zydus Cadila has said that it has planned to manufacture 100 million to 120 million doses of ZyCoV-D pandemic annually and has started to stock the doses.

Currently, the people who have received the vaccine must download their vaccination certificate by logging into the CoWin portal. 

Some of the other reasons include fear of death after vaccination, a phobia of injections, fear of contracting the virus after the vaccine, complacency, and unavailability of choice of the vaccine. 

On Saturday, the Union government has given Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) for the vaccine developed by global healthcare giant Johnson & Johnson. 

It must be noted that the prices of per dose of Covaxin and Covishield at the private hospitals stand at Rs 1,410 and Rs 780 respectively.

The city had encountered a similar setback weeks ago and it is under imperative need to acquire an adequate amount of vaccines as it is getting back to normalcy.

The Hyderabad-based pharmaceutical company has on Saturday unveiled the safety and efficacy data of phase 3 clinical trials of Covaxin.

In a similar incident last week, a 51-year-old man in Odisha was administered two doses of COVID-19 vaccines on the same day.
