The official title Jailer was revealed in June later along with the first look poster which introduced Rajinikanth as Muthuvel Pandian, a jailer.

The event took place in Vijayawada and several pictures of Rajinikanth’s warm welcome by Balakrishna and Naidu have gone viral on social media.

The film is said to be a thriller dark comedy with Rajinikanth playing the role of Muthuvel Pandian, a jailer who has to deal with a gang that tries to rescue their leader from the prison.

He said it was an honor to share the screen with Rajinikanth and was impressed by the actor's professionalism and modesty on set.

Dil Raju of Varisu fame, is said to bankroll this feature, and the director through this flick makes his first Kollywood debut.

The film has received positive reviews from critics and audiences alike for its emotional storyline, and impactful and powerful premise on family bonding and religious belief. 

It revolves around a police constable who is recruited to capture the leader of a separatist group that fights against the authorities and the government system.

Rajinikanth, who is currently busy with his upcoming films Jailer, Lal Salaam, and Thalaivar 170, has reportedly expressed his wish to work with Lokesh Kanagaraj after being impressed by his previous works. 

"If someone announces the release date of a film even before starting the shoot, there is a 50 percent chance that the film is already a flop."

Fans of Rajinikanth, who haven't heard anything about the film since the cast was announced, are in for a real treat.
