Fans are eagerly waiting for his upcoming film Jailer, a mass action entertainer directed by Nelson Dilipkumar and produced by Sun Pictures. The film, which was officially announced in February 2022 with the working title Thalaivar 169, has now got a release date.
According to film sources, Jailer is planning to release in theatres on August 10, coinciding with the Independence Day weekend. Adding to the excitement, film insiders also reported that the Sivakarthikeyan starrer Maaveran to debut theatres on August 11th. If this came to be true, Sivakarthikeyan will have a remarkable screen clash with his guru, as he is the diehard fan to the Superstar.
Jailer features an ensemble cast of Rajinikanth, Shiva Rajkumar, Tamannaah, Ramya Krishnan, Sunil, Jackie Shroff, Vasanth Ravi, Vinayakan and Yogi Babu. The film also has a cameo appearance by Malayalam superstar Mohanlal. The music is composed by Anirudh Ravichander, who has previously worked with Rajinikanth in Petta and Darbar.
Jailer marks the first collaboration of Rajinikanth and Nelson Dilipkumar, who is known for his comedy films like Kolamavu Kokila and Doctor. The film is said to be a thriller dark comedy with Rajinikanth playing the role of Muthuvel Pandian, a jailer who has to deal with a gang that tries to rescue their leader from the prison. The film promises to be a fun-filled ride with Rajinikanth’s trademark style and charisma.
The film was initially expected to release in summer 2023 but was postponed due to the delay in shooting caused by a strike in Hyderabad. The makers also wanted to avoid a clash with Mani Ratnam’s magnum opus Ponniyin Selvan 2, which is slated to release on April 28. Jailer is currently in the final stages of production and is expected to wrap up by April this year.
