The video of his speech, which stirred controversy, had gone viral as his warning has invited widespread outrage over his conduct of addressing the pandemic and vaccine mandate.
India has reported 12 new cases of Omicron on Wednesday alone with four cases each in Maharashtra and Kerala, two in Telangana, and one each in West Bengal and Tamil Nadu.
While a 7-year-old boy tested positive for Omicron in West Bengal, Tamil Nadu is likely to record its first case as six persons have been hospitalized with the suspicion of the Omicron variant.
Though Tamil Nadu hasn't reported the Omicron cases, the government is tightening up the containment measures as the variant has been making its move to several states.
Though the variant is spreading rapidly, the experts say that it is not posing a severe threat as fatalities caused by Omicron remain low and the infection only leads to mild symptoms.
Tamil Nadu Health Minister Ma Subramanian has said that the vaccination is mandatory for students above 18 years of age to attend the classes physically.
So far, four states - Karnataka (2 cases), Gujarat (1 case), Rajasthan (9 cases), and Maharashtra (8 cases) and the national capital region (1 case) had reported the Omicron cases.
