Actor-turned-politician Kamal Haasan has had a swift recovery from the Covid-19 pandemic last Saturday. However, his hasty mode of getting back to business had invited trouble under the grounds that he had apparently defied the Covid-19 protocol and the Tamil Nadu government has decided to demand an explanation from him. 

67-year-old actor, who is the president of his political outfit Makkal Needhi Maiam, had tested positive for the Covid-19 pandemic on November 22, days after returning from the United States. He had a mild cough and was admitted to Sri Ramachandra Health Centre in Chennai. He was hosting Bigg Boss Tamil season 5 prior to his hospitalization and took a brief break from the entertainment show due to his health condition. During his stay at the hospital, he had virtually appeared for the show that in a way conveyed that he was doing fine. 

He battled and recovered from the pandemic and was discharged from the hospital on December 4 - Saturday, nearly ten days after his hospitalization. However, upon getting discharged, Kamal Haasan had gone straight to the sets of Bigg Boss show to resume hosting the season. His hasty resumption to host the show had put him in a setback with the accusation that he had violated the Covid-19 protocols. As per the government's guidelines, those who have recovered from Covid should isolate themselves at home for seven days after getting discharged from the hospital.

However, Kamal Haasan didn't put him under the ambit of guidelines as he immediately went to host the show on Saturday, after his discharge. As the sequel of his action, the Tamil Nadu Health Department has decided to demand an explanation from the actor for violating the Covid-19 norms. The department will be serving him the notice for which he has to issue an explanation on why he had defied the norms. 

While speaking about Kamal's action, Tamil Nadu Health Secretary J Radhakrishnan has said, "Even if those who had tested positive for Coronavirus had isolated themselves in the hospital and got treated for it, they are required to isolate themselves for seven days at home. But, after recovering at the hospital, Kamal Haasan hasn't isolated himself for seven days. Instead, he had gone to shoot Bigg Boss and the health department will be sending a notice to him seeking an explanation for his action." 

On Saturday, Kamal Haasan had issued a statement in which he had thanked the doctors, his friends, and fans for their wishes and prayers. He took photos with the doctors, who treated him, before leaving the hospital. Sharing his statement, he wrote, "Precautions will protect as much as possible. If we feel unwell beyond them, the actions that we take would heal us quickly", adding that he had recovered swiftly after getting infected.
