With the current reporting of 1,283 cases, Chennai has recorded 1,64,744 cases so far of which 1,50,522 cases have been discharged and 3,179 had died of the viral infection.
The hospital said, "Vijayakanth has tested positive for COVID-19 on 22nd September 2020. He is completely stable and admitted in MIOT Hospitals, Chennai".
Tamil Nadu has reported 5,80,808 positive cases so far of which 46,341 are active, 5,25,154 have been recovered, and 9,313 had succumbed to the viral infection.
By announcing the partial re-opening, the government has stressed that the order won't be applicable for the schools that are in the containment zones, as these schools would remain closed.
The reports say Vijayakanth could have contracted to the novel coronavirus when he attended the party event that was recently held at the party headquarters in Koyambedu.
"He was a dedicated MP and effective Minister, admired across the spectrum. His demise is saddening. My thoughts are with his family and friends in this sad hour. Om Shanti", the Prime Minister tweeted.
