COVID-19: Chennai reports over 1,200 fresh cases as TN's tally nears to hit 6 lakh!

The state of Tamil Nadu has reported 5,589 fresh cases that were tested positive for Coronavirus (COVID-19) on Monday which had taken the state's total tally to 5,86,397 positive cases so far including active, recovered, and deceased patients. 

According to the official press release issued by the state health department, Tamil Nadu has tested 71,81,125 samples so far including 80,465 that were tested on Monday of which 5,589 had confirmed to have contracted to the viral infection. These 5,589 cases include the influx of 12 patients who returned to the state from other regions - eight came from Kerala, and one each from Andhra Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and Karnataka. 

Of these 5,589 cases, 3,396 are males and the rest 2,192 are female patients. According to the press release, 16 districts had accounted for heavy caseloads in the current reporting. Chennai has reported 1,283 cases, 587 cases belong to Coimbatore, 256 cases from Salem, 249 cases each from Chengalpattu, and Thiruvallur. 

Tiruppur has reported 198 cases, 180 cases belong to Thanjavur, 162 cases from Cuddalore, 151 cases from Thiruvannamalai, 147 cases from Kancheepuram, 146 cases from Namakkal, 137 cases belong to Nilgiris, 135 cases from Vellore, 133 cases from Erode, 131 cases from Villupuram, and 128 cases belong to Thiruvarur. 

The state has reported 5,554 fresh discharges taking the total tally of discharges to 5,30,708 so far and the state has also recorded 70 fresh deaths through which the death toll currently stands at 9,383. According to the press release, of these 70 deaths, 41 deaths were recorded at the government hospitals and the rest 29 were from the private establishments. 

Of these 70 deaths, 13 belong to Chennai and 64 out of 70 deaths had identified with comorbidities. Chennai has reported over a thousand cases for the first time in the past few weeks. With the current reporting of 1,283 cases, Chennai has recorded 1,64,744 cases so far of which 1,50,522 cases have been discharged and 3,179 had died of the viral infection. 

As of Monday- September 28, Tamil Nadu has reported 5,86,397 cases so far of which 46,306 are active, 5,30,708 have been discharged, and 9,383 had succumbed to the viral infection.
