The much-awaited film Leo, starring Thalapathy Vijay and directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, has finally wrapped up its shooting. The film, which is touted to be a high-octane action thriller, has been in the making for six months and has completed 125 days of shoot.
The director took to his Twitter handle to share the news with his fans and thanked the entire cast and crew for their hard work and dedication. Leo is the second collaboration between Lokesh Kanagaraj and Thalapathy Vijay after their 2021 blockbuster Master, which also featured Vijay Sethupathi as the main antagonist. The film has an ensemble cast of Sanjay Dutt, Trisha, Mansoor Ali Khan, and Mysskin. The film also boasts of eight famous directors playing cameo roles in the film, including S. J. Suryah, Anurag Kashyap, Mysskin, Arjun Sarja, Gautham Vasudev Menon, Manobala and Lokesh Kanagaraj himself.
The film has music composed by Anirudh Ravichander, who has previously worked with Vijay in Kaththi (2014) and Master. The cinematography is handled by Manoj Paramahamsa and the editing by Philomin Raj. The film is produced by S. S. Lalit Kumar of Seven Screen Studio and co-produced by Jagadish Palanisamy. The film has a budget of ₹250–300 crore and Vijay reportedly received ₹120 crore as remuneration.
The film was officially announced in January 2023 under the tentative title Thalapathy 67, as it is Vijay’s 67th film as a lead actor. The title of the film was announced a few days later as Leo, which is also the name of Vijay’s character in the film. The first look poster of the film was released on February , which showed Vijay in a rugged look with a sword in his hand and thematic to bloody sweet.
The film’s shooting commenced in January 2023 in Chennai and later moved to Kashmir for a brief schedule. The film’s shooting was completed on July 14, 2023, with Vijay wrapping up his portion on July 10, 2023. The director shared a photo with Vijay on his Twitter account and thanked him for making the second outing a special one.
The film is slated to release in theatres worldwide on October 19, 2023, coinciding with Diwali festival. The film’s trailer is expected to be released soon. The film has already earned a whopping Rs 400 crore six months before its release through its theatrical rights and satellite rights deals.
Leo is one of the most anticipated films of the year and fans are eagerly waiting to see Vijay in a new avatar. The film is also expected to be part of Lokesh Kanagaraj’s Cinematic Universe (LCU), which he started with Kaithi (2019) and extended with Vikram (2022). Fans are wondering if Leo will have any connection with the previous films or if it will be a standalone story.
