Chennai had been reporting over 2000 cases for consecutive days for the past four days, the city's count stood below 2000.

The girl was charred to death by the unidentified assailants and the district police department has installed ten special teams to probe the death.

The state has also recorded 18 deaths, as the steady rise in the number of deaths has taken the death toll to 367.

The state is going to end the first week of the fifth phase of the lockdown by adding at least 6,500 cases to its total count.
