COVID-19 in TN: With 1,203 cases, Chennai reports a drop while cases soar in southern districts!

The state of Tamil Nadu has reported 3,616 fresh cases that were tested positive for Coronavirus (COVID-19) on Tuesday which had taken the state's tally beyond 1.18 lakhs by reporting 1,18,594 cases so far including the active, recovered, and deceased patients. 

The current reporting of 3,616 cases had declined the graph of the state's affected cases after witnessing more than 4000 cases for the past few days. The state health department has put out the latest developments concerning the outbreak in the state. According to the press release, Tamil Nadu has tested 14,13,435 samples so far including 36,938 that were tested on Tuesday of which 3,616 returned positive for the viral infection. 

 

These 3,616 cases include 65 people who returned to Tamil Nadu from other regions. Out of these 3,616 cases, 2,180 are males and 1,436 are female patients, 1,203 cases belong to Chennai, 334 cases belong to Madurai, 253 cases belong to Virudhunagar, 217 cases belong to Thiruvallur, 181 cases belong to Tirunelveli, 144 cases belong to Thoothukudi, 125 cases from Ranipet, and 119 cases belong to Kanyakumari. 

117 cases belong to Vellore, 106 belong to Kancheepuram, 99 cases belong to Tiruvannamalai, and 87 cases belong to Chengalpattu. These districts have reported major caseloads in the current reporting and while Chennai has recorded a drop in cases, districts like Madurai, Virudhunagar, Tirunelveli, and Thoothukudi - southern districts of the state have been reporting soaring cases each day.

The state has reported 4,545 fresh discharges which had taken the tally of total discharge to 71,116 so far -highest than the active cases. The current reporting of discharges has been recorded as the highest single-day rise of the recoveries since the outbreak. The state has recorded 65 deaths taking the death toll to 1,636 so far - the fourth highest in the country.

According to the press release, of these 65 deaths, 45 were reported from the government hospitals while the rest 20 were recorded at the private establishments. Of these 65 deaths, 39 belong to Chennai which had taken the city's death toll to 1,120 so far, and out of 65 deaths, 52 deaths were identified with co-morbid conditions like diabetes and hypertension. 

With the current reporting of 1,203 cases, Chennai had seen a decline in positive cases. The city had been reporting over 2000 cases for consecutive days for the past four days, the city's count stood below 2000 and through the current reporting, Chennai has recorded 71,230 so far of which 22,374 are active and 47,735 have been discharged. 

As of Tuesday, Tamil Nadu has reported 1,18,594 cases so far of which 45,839 are active, 71,116 have been recovered, and 1,636 had succumbed to the virus.
