Actor Soori, who has received rave reviews for his performance in the recently released film ‘Viduthalai - Part 1’, has spoken out about the incident that took place at the Rohini theatre in Chennai, where a tribal family was allegedly denied entry to watch the film Pathu Thala by two ticket checkers.
The actor said that he felt sad that the tribal people were not allowed inside the theatre, which he said theatre was found to treat all equally. "Theatre is equal for all. It is wrong for Rohini theatre not to allow tribal people to watch the film. I don't know why the management had done this. I feel sad that they are not allowed inside the theatre," Soori said in a press meet.
The occurrence was brought to public attention after a video of the family being prevented from entering the theater went viral on social media. Numerous internet users expressed their anger and ridiculed the theater's management for practicing discrimination and refusing entry to ordinary people, even though they had already purchased tickets.
The Chennai Mofussil Bus Terminus (CMBT) Police registered a case against the ticket checkers under IPC section 341 (wrongful restraint) and SC/ST Act, 1989. The theatre management issued an apology and said that they had suspended the staff involved in the incident.
Meanwhile, Soori also shared his excitement about his debut as a lead actor in ‘Viduthalai - Part 1’, directed by acclaimed filmmaker Vetrimaaran. The actor said that he was sure that the film would make everyone happy and that he would continue to play diverse roles in his future projects.
