Thanjavur was the capital of the Cholas for most of their reign, and it was here that they built some of their most magnificent temples.

The Prime Minister's office said, "Rs. 2 lakh each from PMNRF would be given to the next of kin of those who have lost their lives due to the mishap in Thanjavur, Tamil Nadu."

Condolences have been pouring in from across the country as Tamil Nadu has been grieving the demise of eleven people and praying for the recovery of the injured. 

District's social welfare department has lodged a complaint with the local police demanding action against the two sons under the sections of the Senior Citizen Act 2007.
