From PM Narendra Modi to MK Stalin: Leaders pay tribute to the eleven deceased who die in TN's Thanjavur!

The tragic incident of electrocution that happened on Wednesday in the Thanjavur district of Tamil Nadu during the procession of a temple's chariot has become the talk of the nation as several national leaders including the President and the Prime Minister had paid tribute to the people who were killed in the incident. The fatal mishap has claimed the lives of eleven people so far while 15 more people are getting treated at the hospital with injuries. 

The incident has drawn quick attention across the country and the state government has announced solatium to the families that have lost their loved ones. Taking to Twitter, President Ram Nath Kovind wrote, "The loss of life, including that of children, due to electrocution in a procession in Thanjavur is a tragedy beyond words. My deepest condolences to the bereaved families. I pray for the speedy recovery of the injured."

Vice President Venkaiah Naidu wrote, "Anguished by the loss of lives in a tragic incident in Thanjavur, Tamil Nadu. My thoughts are with the bereaved families in this hour of grief. I pray for the speedy recovery of the injured."  In his tribute message, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has announced an ex gratia to the families that incurred a loss of life. The Prime Minister's office said, "Rs. 2 lakh each from PMNRF would be given to the next of kin of those who have lost their lives due to the mishap in Thanjavur, Tamil Nadu. The injured would be given Rs. 50,000."

Further, his office has shared his tribute in Tamil and said, "I was saddened to learn about the incident in Thanjavur, Tamil Nadu. My deepest condolences to the families of the victims of this tragic moment. I hope the injured will recover soon." Union Home Minister Amit Shah wrote, "I was deeply saddened to learn about the casualties in the Thanjavur accident. I extend my deepest condolences to the families of the victims of this accident. Prayers for the speedy recovery of the injured." 

Tamil Nadu Governor RN Ravi wrote, "Anguished over unfortunate mishap during Chariot procession in Thanjavur, Hon'ble Governor, Thiru.R.N.Ravi, expressed grief and deepest condolences to the bereaved families of those who lost their lives, and prayed for the speedy recovery of the injured." Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin has said that he had ordered the authorities to offer a high-standard treatment for the injured. 

Tamil Nadu's Opposition party ADMK has paid its tribute to the deceased and announced solatium. As per the official statement, ADMK said it would be providing Rs 1 lakh each for the families that had lost their loved ones while Rs 25,000 will be given to the injured. According to the police, the procession of the temple's chariot in Thanjavur that began in the early morning hours of Wednesday had come in contact with a high transmission line following which the people steering the chariot were electrocuted.

The fatal accident had killed ten people on the spot while the injured were rushed to the hospital. Among the deceased were three children. The incident has happened during the procession of the Appar temple chariot in Kalimedu, Thanjavur. It has been reported that the temple chariot was taking a turn and it had faced difficulty and before being reserved, an iron rod on the chariot had come into contact with the overhead transmission line. As the chariot was tied to a high-efficient generator for the lighting, the impact was tragic as the people who were standing on the chariot were thrown away and caused casualties. 

Ten people have died on the spot while a 13-year-old had breathed his last while he was undergoing treatment. The injured have been getting treated at the Thanjavur Medical College. After being informed about the mishap, emergency services including fire tenders and district officials rushed to the spot and reviewed the situation. Thanjavur district collector Dinesh Ponraj Oliver went to the medical college hospital and visited the injured people who are getting treated. The state government has paid tribute to the deceased during the assembly session on Wednesday and Chief Minister MK Stalin has started to Thanjavur to visit the injured and enquire about the situation.
