T Manickam was apprehended by the police amid a public outrage over the unruly behaviours of the DMK leaders, including ministers, in recent times. 

Nehru's assault on a DMK cadre has come days after another minister SM Nasar was slammed for hurling a stone at party workers.

The incident had spurred a furore in the area and the probe is launched by the local police and the officials are searching for the assailants.

While the local court has initially ordered the police to remand the ADMK candidate in judicial custody, he was awarded conditional bail later.

The police have now arrested Uma Devi and five men who had murdered the transwoman. A case has been filed against them under section 302- murder of the Indian Penal Code. 

Mani has been accused of swindling money from several people under the fake assurance of providing government jobs.

The driver, who absconded after the incident, was identified as Satheesh Kumar from Perambalur and he was arrested by the police on July 26 - Monday.
