The DMK has been unfolding several statewide events to mark the occasion while the national leaders and celebrities are queued up to wish MK Stalin as he steps into the club of septuagenarians. 

When Kamal Haasan nodded his support to Elangovan, it was speculated that whether he is turning tables towards the state ruling party. 

The voters at the constituency were queued up before the polling stations to elect their new representative to the state assembly after the demise of Congress MLA Thirumahan Everaa. 

MK Stalin campaigned for the DMK-backing Congress candidate EVKS Elangovan and EPS has wooed voters to support ADMK's candidate Thennarasu. 

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and DMK President MK Stalin has visited the constituency and toured various places to seek votes for the DMK backed Congress candidate EVKS Elangovan.

"Four  injured persons belong to the DMK and the other four are from the NTK. We are investigating," the police official added.

"Within minutes of these two great leaders giving their grace, the wonderful news has come. It is a boon given by powerful leaders,"

Erode East bypoll is just ten days away from now and as the political parties are counting days, the political bigshots in the state are crossing swords to win the race.

Krishnagiri Superintendent of Police Saroj Thakur said that the accused have been taken into custody and that the people who spread rumours will be prosecuted.

The death of the military officer has sparked a political turmoil in the state with Tamil Nadu BJP President Annamalai announcing a statewide protest on Thursday.
