As NTK has secured 10,021 votes and finished third in the race in the 2021 assembly polls in Erode East, the party hopes to be a competitive contender in the upcoming bypoll.
With the strong support from the DMK alliance, Elangovan holds an advantage in the bypoll race and recently, he also got a backing from Kamal Haasan's Makkal Needhi Maiam.
On Wednesday - January 25, Kamal Haasan announced that his party would support the Congress candidate in the Erode East bypoll, that has been scheduled to be held on February 27.
Elangovan is a veteran Congress leader and father of deceased MLA Thirumahan Everaa, whose demise had necessitated the bypoll, which will be held on February 27.
On Wednesday, the Election Commission has announced the date for the Erode East bypoll. As per the announcement, the bypoll for the Erode East constituency will be held on February 27, 2023.
In 2023, the country would be witnessing the assembly polls in nine states and as the first leg of the year-long elections, the parties would be battling in a political war in northeast.
