You must know: When the Congress candidate Elangovan will file his nomination for Erode East bypoll?

By the time of writing this content, the Erode East bypoll is not even a month away and by this time next month, the voters, political parties, and the Tamil Nadu people will be awaiting for the results of the bypoll.  Erode East bypoll will be held on February 27 and the results will be declared on March 2. 

The filing of nomination papers for the bypoll will begin on January 31 and while the opposition alliance is yet to declare its candidate amid political chaos, the Tamil Nadu ruling DMK and its alliance are much ahead in the race. As the bypoll seat was awarded to the Congress party by DMK, the Congress announced former Union Minister EVKS Elangovan as its candidate.

The announcement was made on January 22 and Elangovan is all set to file his nomination, ten days after he was picked as the candidate. It has been officially announced on Saturday - January 28 that Elangovan will file his nomination papers on February 3. With the strong support from the DMK alliance, Elangovan holds an advantage in the bypoll race and recently, he also got a backing from Kamal Haasan's Makkal Needhi Maiam. 

The Erode East bypoll was necessitated after the shocking demise of Congress MLA Thirumahan Everaa, who died on January 4 at the age of 46 due to heart attack. EVKS Elangovan is the father of Thirumahan Everaa and the latter was the great-grandson of Thanthai Periyar. Elangovan was a former Union Minister and a former chief of Tamil Nadu Congress Committee. 

While the filing of nominations will begin on January 31, the last date to file the nominations is February 7. The last date for scrutiny of nominations would be February 8 and the last date for withdrawal of candidatures is February 10. While the opposition ADMK and BJP are yet to announce their candidate due to growing political infight, several parties like Vijayakanth's DMDK and TTV Dhinakaran's AMMK have announced their candidates.
