The incident has happened in Thousands Lights area of the city on Friday morning and the techie was rushed to a government hospital, where the doctors declared her brought dead. 

Uttarakhand Police Director General Ashok Kumar stated that the batsman, who was driving alone, smashed the windscreen to escape the burning vehicle.

By citing that nobody is injured seriously, she said her daughter is getting treated at a hospital. She appealed on social media to pray for her family.

32-year-old Ranjith Kumar was a constable in the Alwarthirunagar police station and on Sunday, he ran over the elderly man while he was driving his friend's car.

In Delhi, Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh had briefed Prime Minister Narendra Modi about the accident and he also briefed the Union cabinet. 

After visiting the spot, Additional Commissioner for Traffic Ravikanthe Gowda said that the accident has happened due to negligence and rash driving.
