The incessant manhunt against self-styled godman Siva Shankar Baba has come to end on Wednesday after a special team of CBCID had arrested the godman in Delhi. The godman was brought to Chennai in the night hours of Wednesday for investigating him in connection to the slew of sexual harassment allegations against him. Baba's drama of hide and seek was curtailed down and he will be taken into judicial custody on Thursday.
The special team of Tamil Nadu CBCID who had gone to Uttarakhand to arrest the godman had received the tipoff that Siva Shankar Baba has found a haven in Delhi. With the help of the Delhi police, the Tamil Nadu police team had apprehended the godman who was hiding in a devotee's home in Ghaziabad. After arresting him, he was produced before Delhi's magistrate to possess him and bring him to Chennai.
After the consent from Delhi Magistrate, the CBCID team had prepared to bring him to Chennai as a case was booked against the godman under the POCSO Act based on the sexual harassment allegations levelled against him by the former and current students of Sushil Hari International School in Chennai, the educational institution that the godman has founded. He was accused of sexually torturing and intimidating the students under the guise of branding him as Lord Krishna.
Based on the shocking allegations from the students, the Chennai police had initially filed a case against Siva Shankar Baba, and as per the reports that he could have escaped from Tamil Nadu to evade the arrest, the state government has transferred the case to the CBCID and a special team was formed to nab the godman before he could leave the country. During questioning, the school management has said that the godman has been admitted to a hospital in Dehradun, Uttarakhand.
With the claim, the special team had rushed to Uttarakhand in parallel to issuing a lookout notice against the godman to strengthen the manhunt. The officials had gone to the hospital where he was getting treated but they came to know that he had fled from the hospital. The officials had moved the probe to the angle that he could have gone to Nepal by road to have a safe haven. However, the team had received potential information that Baba was hiding in Delhi.
How the CBCID team had won the operation of arresting the accused godman? According to our sources, the police had found out that a woman devotee of Siva Shankar Baba has been helping him during his run. The officials had obtained the mobile number of the woman from the Dehradun hospital where he was getting treated. When the officials had contacted the number, they found that the number has been switched off.
The officials then approached the Cyber Crime department and ascertained that the number was last active in Delhi and the team has suspected that Siva Shankar Baba could be communicating through this mobile number. The CBCID team had then traced the tower location and rushed to Ghaziabad in Delhi. Based on the tracking, they reached a house of Baba's devotee, where the godman was hiding.
The godman had tonsured his hair to stay away from his usual identification. However, the police had identified him and successfully completed the operation of arresting Siva Shankar Baba in three days of taking the case. After arresting him, the officials had produced the godman in Delhi court and brought him to Chennai in the night hours of Wednesday. He was directly brought to the CBCID office. According to the latest reports, the godman will be produced before POCSO court in Chengalpattu on Thursday evening and he will be taken into judicial custody.
