The Chief Minister of Maharashtra and the leader of the Maha Vikas Aghadi, Uddhav Thackeray has proved his majority in the Maharashtra legislative assembly amidst the heated protests from the BJP on Saturday, exactly two days after swearing-in as the state's 19th Chief Minister.
After having been proved majority in the assembly, Maha Vikas Aghadi, the tri-party coalition of Congress, NCP and Shiv Sena has shown its legality to form a government led by Uddhav Thackeray by camping off the month-long political drama in the state that was played by the political parties to form a government with having no majority mark in 288 members assembly. By outsing, the attempts and strategies formulated by the BJP to retain the power in the state, the coalition of Congress, NCP and Shiv Sena has got the support of 169 MLAs in the trust vote that was conducted in the assembly on Saturday.
With having the support of MLAs more than the majority mark of 145, the Maha Vikas Aghadi was declared won in the trust vote in the middle of heated protests and ruckus that were staged by the BJP on the floors of the assembly. The MLAs of BJP, which is the single largest party in the assembly, had walked out from the assembly by accusing that the assembly has violated the rules. While speaking in the assembly, the BJP leader and the former Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said that the session of the assembly was not as per the rules and accused the session to start the proceedings without Vande Mataram following which the MLAs of BJP voiced against the trust vote.
The Interim Speaker Dilip Patil had denied and rejected the charge of Fadnavis by stating that this session was organized with the consent from the governor and dismissed his notion. By objecting the developments, Devendra Fadnavis led BJP MLAs had walked out of the assembly and while speaking to the reporters outside of the assembly, Fadnavis has said that they would be submitting a letter to the Governor to suspend the proceedings in the assembly and BJP blamed the Shiv Sena alliance to change the temporary speaker.
The floor test was conducted by NCP leader Dilip Walse Patil who replaced BJP's Kalidas Kolambkar, who was earlier named as an interim speaker. The reports say that the new permanent Speaker of the Assembly would be elected tomorrow. While addressing the reporters, BJP leader Chandrakant Patil has branded the replacement of the elected interim speaker as illegal and stated that the MLAs were not administered the oath as per the rules and further revealed that the party would be tabling its petition with the Governor and will approach the Supreme court.
While questioned our Mumbai sources close to the developments on the reason behind Shiv Sena's strategy to web the independent MLAs despite having the majority in the tri-party alliance, our sources have pictured the possibilities wherein the BJP would attempt to fish the numbers through independent MLAs to its boat with the view of shaking the alliance and the majority and stated that Shiv Sena party tries to hold the MLAs and hold the magic number of 145 through the support of independent MLAs if BJP attempts to collapse the alliance.
On October 21st, the state of Maharashtra went for legislative elections for 288 assembly seats and the results that were declared on October 24th had revealed that no party had attained the majority mark of 145 seats. BJP got 105 seats whereas Shiv Sena, NCP and Congress had acquired 56, 54 and 44 seats respectively.
