We can precisely describe the current developments in Maharashtra politics as the conclusion for the month-long drama that was played by the political parties in forming a new government, with having no majority.
The state is ought to witness the chair of the Chief Minister turning as a ' musical chair' by the regional and national parties to assume the power in India's richest state. The month-long drama had presented the mega twists and debacles in the tale of politics that had brought in more uncertain and aberrant developments with parties repeated failures to show the numbers in staking a claim to form a new government.
With having no majority, the state was under the Presidential rule from November 12th and it was revoked in the wee hours of 23rd November after BJP had tuned in fresh twists in retaining the power in the party where Devendra Fadnavis assumed office as Chief Minister and NCP leader Ajit Pawar took oath as Deputy Chief Minister and the twist lasted for few hours after NCP's Supreme Sharad Pawar had denied the support for BJP and claimed that the support of Ajit Pawar is of his own and not officially from the party.
The tri-party alliance Congress, NCP, and Shiv Sena tabled the petition in the Supreme court on Saturday through which the trio called for a trust vote in the assembly by citing that Fadnavis lack the numbers of the majority mark. They had accused the decision of Governor for inviting Fadnavis to form the government as unconstitutional. After hearing the petition, the Supreme court ordered to conduct a trust vote in the assembly on Wednesday to determine the majority and hours after the verdict was pronounced, the Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Deputy CM Ajit Pawar had resigned from their respective office and while addressing the reporters, Fadvanis said that the party doesn't have the majority and claimed that the party don't want to indulge in horse-trading. He declined the claim of Shiv Sena in the rotational CM post and asserted that BJP will get back to work as the opposition.
After the BJP government collapsed in just four days, the MLAs from Shiv Sena, Congress, and NCP met the state governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari on Tuesday and handed over their letters of support for Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray as the Chief Minister of Maharashtra. The governor has nodded the claim and invited the tri-party alliance to form the government and the governor has given the time till December 3rd for Uddhav Thackeray to show the majority support in the assembly. The reports say that after the MLAs of three parties had nominated Uddhav as the Chief Minister, he will be taking oath as the Chief Minister for the first time on November 28th at Shivaji Park. By holding the office of the Chief Minister for 80 hours, BJP's Devendra Fadnavis has become the Chief Minister with the third shortest tenure in independent India after Harish Rawat, who served as the Chief Minister of Uttarkhand for one day during 2016 and Jagdambika Pal, who served as the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh for two days in 1998.
On October 21st, the state of Maharashtra went for legislative elections for 288 assembly seats and the results that were declared on October 24th had revealed that no party had attained the majority mark of 145 seats. BJP got 105 seats whereas Shiv Sena, NCP and Congress had acquired 56, 54 and 44 seats respectively and about one month after the elections concluded, ‘Maha Vikas Aghadi' the tri-party alliance of Congress, NCP, and Shiv Sena would be forming the government in Maharashtra by staging off the political turmoil.
