On the battleground of Tamil Nadu politics, popular actor Vijay could be the latest entrant to the track, joining the already-infinite contenders. Vijay's political entry has been on the table of his successful cinematic career for several years. In the prelude to his electoral politics, Vijay's outfit 'Vijay Makkal Iyakkam' had contested in the Tamil Nadu local body polls in 2019, 2020, and 2022, and reaped a good scale of vote bank. 

The actor's outfit has been dubbed to have a strong grassroots presence across the state and to take it to the next level, Vijay is framing a mechanism to drive his career towards politics. The fans and members of the outfit are active on the ground as they carry out various welfare measures like blood donation initiatives. Recently, Vijay came out with an announcement that sparked speculations over his political entry. 

Earlier this month, Vijay made an announcement that aligned his political entry with Dr B R Ambedkar. He had directed his Vijay Makkal Iyakkam workers to celebrate Dr B R Ambedkar's birth anniversary across Tamil Nadu on April 14, 2023, and to convene district office bearers meeting from April 15 to May end. As his announcement has come at a high time when the parties are preparing for the 2024 Lok Sabha polls, the talks about his political entry have been full of beans.

The members of the actor's outfit had celebrated the Ambedkar Jayanti as they paid respects to the iconic leader across the state. Several sources said that following Vijay's announcement, Vijay Makkal Iyakkam's general secretary Bussy Anand will be visiting all districts from April 15 and Anand had also written a letter to all district secretaries about convening a meeting. The reports say that Vijay's outfit has planned to contest in the 2024 Lok Sabha polls. 

As Vijay's move towards politics has triggered a debate, Tamil nationalist Seeman has now come up with a demand that Vijay should support him if he enters politics. Seeman, the Chief Coordinator of Naam Tamilar Katchi, has said he would welcome Vijay if he enters politics and added that he doesn't have to support anyone and only Vijay should extend his support. 

Speaking to the reporters in Chennai, Seeman said, "Vijay's latest actions show that he is coming towards politics. We welcome them and Vijay's entry would support the alternative politics. So, he should come to politics and we can't support him as Naam Tamilar is an independent political movement. We have been standing for the rights of Tamils for a long time and Vijay should support us if he enters politics."
