The winter session of the Parliament had good productivity amidst the uproar!

In the middle of the uproar and ruckus, both chambers of the Parliament had recorded with good productivity in its Winter session that lasted for nearly one month. Lok Sabha, the lower house of the Parliament has reported with 116% of the productivity while Rajya Sabha, the upper house, has ended up with 99%.

While addressing the press conference after the conclusion of the session on Friday, Parliamentary affairs minister Pralhad Joshi revealed that the Lok Sabha passed fourteen bills whereas Rajya Sabha had cleared fifteen bills and cited that both the chambers had passed fifteen bills in total. While underlining the productivity of the Parliament, Joshi stated that the Congress members, for the first time, impeded Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla when he was addressing his remarks on the conclusion of the session.

As the Rajya Sabha had delivered good productivity in its 250th session, the Chairman of the Upper house and India's Vice President Venkaiah Naidu lauded the members of the house for improving and enhancing the quality of debates on the crucial bills including the state of the economy and the controversial Citizenship Amendment Bill. Naidu recalled the productivity of the preceding session and stated that the last session had recorded with 104% by conducting the proceedings over the prescribed time and claimed that as like the last one, this session also accounted for 100% of productivity.

Naidu made his statements before adjourning the house and, by citing that this would be the first time for the house to record with 100% of the productivity in two consecutive sessions, he said that the members had collectively demonstrated by upholding the parliamentary democracy over the confrontation and added that the members had kept the quality on the debates on several occasions.

Venkaiah Naidu stated that the Rajya Sabha had successfully functioned for 107 hours and 11 minutes against the scheduled time of 108 hours and 33 minutes and the members sat down for 20 sittings that had resulted in 99% of productivity. Of those functioning hours, a total of 11 hours and 47 minutes, which accounted for 11% of the time, had lost due to the impedes and interruptions. Naidu claimed that despite the interruptions, the members sat for 10 hours and 52 minutes beyond the scheduled hours that aided to conclude the session with 100% productivity.

Throughout the session, Rajya Sabha, where the ruling BJP government lacks the majority, had cleared fifteen bills including the crucial ones like the Citizenship Amendment Bill, the Constitution Amendment Bill that had extended the reservations for SCs and STs in the legislatures for another ten years, the Transgender Persons (Protection of Rights) Bill, the bill that proposed to ban the 'e-cigarettes' and the International Financial Services Bill which were passed with clear majority amidst the outrage and uproar from the opposition parties.
