The ruling party of Tamil Nadu ADMK, which observes alliance with the BJP, has been cementing its governance through its defecting stands against the people by defying their voices for the past few years that had backfired the party with the bricks of controversies, accusations, and criticism that have been shaking the base of the leadership. The party has seemingly been belittling the people-centric support by backing the bills and amendments tabled by the BJP party that had disputed by the people.
In line with that, the ADMK party has webbed the heated controversies and accusations for supporting the Citizenship Amendment Act that has been directing unprecedented protests, uproar, and agitation from the people of all ages across the country. The party's blemishing support to the biased bill had let the lenient passage in the Parliament, especially in Rajya Sabha where BJP lacks the majority and since the bill was enacted into the law, the ADMK's stand has been in the epicenter of fueling the agitation in the state carried out by the opposition leaders, students, women, and the activists where they unanimously accused the handicapped bill and urged the Central government to revoke the amendment.
It was during this high time the state of Tamil Nadu had marked the 46th death anniversary of one of the important Dravidian leaders and social reformer Thanthai Periyar. During the observance of the anniversary on Tuesday, the Tamil Nadu state BJP unit had indulged in the fresh allegations on its offensive and repugnant comments about Periyar following which the Dravidian bodies and movements in the state had condemned and protested against the BJP unit on its remarks. The protest organized by Thanthai Periyar Dravidar Kazhagam in Coimbatore had fiercely voiced against the BJP and chanted to arrest Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the police personnel, who were deployed there, had detained the protestors.
While we questioned some of the ADMK MLAs of the Kongu belt of the state on the party's stand of BJP's comments on Periyar and the controversial CAA, they said that the party shouldn't have supported the Citizenship Act and cited that if former Chief Minister Jayalalithaa could have been alive, she would have strongly opposed it. They revealed that with the view of the context of the current rule, party's leaders Edappadi Palaniswami and Pannerselvam had surrendered to the BJP and voted in favor of the act in the motive of sailing along with the Central party to stay in power.
When asked about the ADMK's notion on BJP's comments about Periyar, the MLAs stated that the party lies on the roots of Thanthai Periyar, Arignar Anna, M G Ramachandran, and Jayalalithaa and BJP had reportedly insulted Periyar, the important leader who originated the party and claimed that the current leadership of ADMK had lost its power and backbone in strongly condemning the BJP and the current leaders had failed to uphold the policies and principles of the party and to rebut the comments which demean the party that had brought in disgusting and ashaming grounds in the state. The MLAs added that with the motive of steering the rule in the state, the party's leaders have been muted on commenting against the BJP.
