When MK Stalin marks his second New Year as the Chief Minister next month, he could be celebrating it after rolling out a major cabinet overhaul for the first time in his rule. And yes, it will perhaps be the first New Year for Stalin's son Udhayanidhi as a minister as he could finally hit the jackpot of becoming a cabinet minister, one-and-half-year after becoming MLA for the first time.
Actor-turned-politician Udhayanidhi Stalin has won from Chepauk-Triplicane constituency in Chennai with a huge margin. When he entered the assembly, our sources say that the plan was in the making to elevate him as a minister. However, MK Stalin had deferred his venture and whenever Udhayanidhi celebrates his birthday, the celebrations won't end sans the demand for making him the minister.
Despite the flak from the opposition over the heir politics, senior DMK leaders were supporting Udhayanidhi's elevation as a minister. Earlier, Tamil Nadu School Education Minister Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi, who is a close friend of Udhayanidhi, made overt demands that Udhayanidhi should be appointed as a minister so that his welfare works will benefit the people beyond his constituency.
Whenever such demands made rounds, they will also spark speculations about Udhayanidhi's ministerial venture and eventually, they will go off the air without any such developments. There were several such demands to MK Stalin from DMK and Congress leaders but Stalin didn't give his nod. Recently, while celebrating Udhayanidhi's birthday, DMK MP Gautham Sigamani has said that Udhayanidhi will become Deputy Chief Minister.
By citing that DMK youth-wing has got revived under the leadership of Udhayanidhi Stalin and his works are inspiring young people, Sigamani said, "Udhayanidhi Stalin will become Deputy Chief Minister soon and his works will benefit entire Tamil Nadu. The people of Tamil Nadu are behind him and he will drive the party to victory in upcoming elections. On behalf of the fans of Udhayanidhi Stalin, we are appealing to the Chief Minister (to appoint him as Deputy Chief Minister)."
While his speech had turned heads, our sources divulged that senior ministers who are in close proximity with MK Stalin had also spoken for Udhayanidhi and said that it's time that he would become a minister. According to the recent reports, MK Stalin is preparing to roll out a major cabinet reshuffle which will be the first cabinet overhaul in his rule.
Previously, MK Stalin had changed the ministerial portfolio of the then Transport Minister Rajakannappan after the latter was accused of demeaning a government official based on his caste. Besides this minor change, Stalin's cabinet was set in stone since he came to power in mid 2021. Now, Stalin is chalking out a plan reshuffle his cabinet.
According to our sources, MK Stalin will most likely reshuffle his cabinet on December 14, 2022, and this time, Udhayanidhi Stalin will hit the jackpot. While it was reported earlier that a new portfolio will be established for Udhayanidhi, our sources say that Udhayanidhi will be appointed as the Minister of Youth Welfare and Sports Development, the portfolio which is currently held by Meyyanathan.
Besides giving his nod to appoint his son as a minister, MK Stalin will also make changes in the portfolios held by senior ministers. It is pertinent to note that Udhayanidhi Stalin has recently said that he is looking to venture into politics full time and he also got reappointed as DMK's Youth Wing secretary recently.
