'We are ready for that': DMDK's Premalatha warns ADMK!

Besides being levied with the stinging challenges of addressing VK Sasikala's resurgence, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi Palaniswami has been facing interminable troubles in fixing the alliance with the allied parties for the upcoming assembly elections. The legislative election will be the first assembly poll for Edappadi Palaniswami as the Chief Minister and it has become an acid test for him in steering forward in being the face of the party.

In the absence of concrete leadership, the ADMK has been stumbling to draw the conclusion of the alliance. As the election is the first for the state since the demise of Jayalalithaa and Karunanidhi, each party in the state has been hoping to have a political breakthrough and to toss up for the political game, the allied parties in the alliance of ADMK have been pressing the state ruling party with their demands to stay in the alliance and while ADMK sops the PMK, led by Dr.Ramadoss, for the alliance, another party in the alliance, DMDK had expressed its displeasure and threatened to break the alliance.

DMDK party is headed by actor turned politician Vijayakanth and has been observing alliance with the current ADMK party since the 2019 Lok Sabha polls. On Sunday, amid the tussle, DMDK Treasurer Premalatha Vijayakanth had expressed disappointment and impatience on why the ADMK is yet to begin seat-sharing talks despite being only around three months for elections.

Speaking to the reporters on Sunday, Premalatha signaled that the party is ready to contest independently and said "It is not a big deal for the DMDK to contest in all 234 constituencies. If Captain Vijayakanth wants, he can say that the party leaders in-charge of all the constituencies can contest in the election. However, we are patient and respecting the alliance dharma. I am duty-bound to say though that there is a limit to our patience". It must be noted that Premalatha had last month demanded the ADMK to allocate 41 seats in the upcoming polls.

Amid her demand, the ADMK hasn't assured Vijayakanth's party regarding the allocation. When there was no significant development for the alliance from the ADMK, Premalatha went on to support VK Sasikala in what was described as a direct threat to ADMK, and Vijayakanth's party would align with Sasikala if ADMK fails to meet its demands.

With Vijayakanth staying off from active politics, Premalatha has been taking charge of the party and executing duties in place of the party's chief. For the past few months, Premalatha has been disputing against the ADMK and vowing the DMDK is ready to contest in the polls independently. The recent dispute triggered by Premalatha has come when the ADMK has been in talks only with the BJP and PMK for the alliance in the polls.

The senior ministers of Tamil Nadu had met PMK Founder Dr.Ramadoss last week to finalize the alliance, but the PMK demanded the ADMK to pass a 20% reservation quota for the Vanniyar community ahead of the polls. While DMDK had alleged that ADMK hadn't initiated talks, the ADMK on the other hand had asserted that the party will contest the polls in the BJP alliance.
