Watch: DMDK Chief Vijayakanth leaves abroad from Chennai for medical check-up!

DMDK Chief Vijayakanth has on Monday left Chennai for the United States for a medical check-up as the actor-turned-politician has been under medical treatment for several years. His ailments were one of the factors that brought more suffering to his party, that braced up back-to-back defeats in the elections even as the leadership is been captained by his wife Premalatha Vijayakanth. 

Vijayakanth has shut his doors for active politics owing to his health condition and he developed complications to a state that he can't walk independently, which largely worried his fans and cadres. Vijayakanth had been one of the prominent actors in the Indian cinema industry and he went on to become the Tamil Nadu Opposition Leader and developed a feud against Jayalalithaa. Vijayakanth's comeback has always been yearned by the cadres to resurrect the party.

However, such expectations are yet to take off as the veteran actor has been battling his ailments. He had been receiving treatment in the United States and he has again taken the flight to the United States for a medical check-up and his recent trip has come days after he celebrated his 69th birthday. According to reports, Vijayakanth had arrived at the Chennai airport in a wheelchair and in a video, he can be seen with a face cover as his assistants had taken him into the terminal. 

Vijayakanth was accompanied by his younger son Shanmuga Pandian and it has been reported that he has taken a flight to Dubai from Chennai and he will be taking a connecting flight to the United States from Dubai. In a statement that he issued ahead of his birthday, he had urged his fans not to gather at his residence to celebrate his birthday. He said that he has decided to celebrate his birthday as "Poverty Eradication Day" and appealed to his supporters to conduct welfare activities across the state. 

He further added in the statement that he would be travelling abroad soon for a medical check-up. The reports say that Vijayakanth would be staying in the United States for two weeks and he left Chennai on Monday after taking the Covid-19 test. It has also been reported that he will be given treatments for walking and speech training and the video of him entering the airport has been going viral on social media. It must be noted that Vijayakanth had fallen ill during the 2014 Lok Sabha polls and initially, he went to Singapore and took treatment.
