Viral Update: Here's the Ponniyin Selvan 2 release date! Makers shares the official video

The cholas are making a comeback. Fans are going crazy over the news of the sequel's impending release. Ponniyin Selvan 1, Maniratnam's enchanted epic play, was a huge feat for Kollywood this year. The movie premiered on September 30 and has since received a lot of praise from viewers who were thrilled to see their favourite actors all in one place for the first time in the epic Chola story. Having teased the release of a sequel, the creators have resumed their chilling ways.

Based on Kalki Krishnamurthy's 1955 novel, Ponniyin Selvan, Ponniyin Selvan: I dramatizes an adventure ride set in the 10th century, the film tracks the factional power struggles within the Chola empire, with the enemies of the state acting as catalysts, The film earned makers a whopping Rs 500 crores gross worldwide. Now, the makers have shared the first look with glimpses from the sequel featuring Chiyaan Vikram, Jayam Ravi, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Karthi.

Lyca Productions bankrolling the prestigious film series took to Twitter on Wednesday and shared a short teaser alongside the caption, "Let’s get those swords in the air as we await the 28th of April 2023! #CholasAreBack #PS1 #PS2 #PonniyinSelvan #ManiRatnam." So the makers made the fans to get the relishing news that the sequel will be releasing on 28th April 2023 officially.

It's worth to remember that the first chapter left off on a suspense, with only brief glimpses of Aishwarya Rai Bachchan's Oomai Rani (her second character in the film) shown. She will likely get more attention in the sequel, and the mysterious ending scenes of post battles featuring Karthi and Jayam Ravi will be opened on the PS 2.  Ponniyin Selvan 1, which is currently streaming on Amazon Prime Video. Karthi, Chiyaan Vikram, Jayam Ravi, Trisha, and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan plays the lead, while Parthiben, Sarath Kumar and Prakash Raj plays in pivotal roles.

AR Rahman composed the music while Kabilan and Venba Geethayan penned the lyrics for the songs and Jayamohan has written the dialogues. Ravi Varman, A. Sreekar Prasad, and Thota Tharani handled the cinematography, editing, and production design respectively. The movie broke several records at the box office, becoming the highest-grossing Tamil movie of 2022, the fourth-highest Tamil movie of all time, and the 16th-highest Indian movie of all time.
