In his day out with the state toppers, actor Vijay has made a short but strong touch on politics, though he refrained from offering hints on his political entry. In an already over-occupied political space in Tamil Nadu, it has been speculated for the past few years that Vijay will be a new entrant and the ground work carried out by the members of outfit, Vijay Makkal Iyakkam (VMI), gave more weight behind such speculations.
In his political aspirations, actor Vijay is building a momentum to set the stage for his political entry and unlike in the past, his outfit members are actively engaging in the social welfare programmes in recent times. From contesting in the local body polls to organizing a food programme, the VMI has been exhibiting the preparedness for actor Vijay's political entry. In line with such social outreach events, the outfit has recently announced that the actor will meet the toppers of the board exams from every district.
As announced, the big meet has held on Saturday- June 17, five days ahead of Vijay's 49th birthday. The event was hosted in Neelankarai and it was organized to felicitate top three toppers of Classes 10 and 12 board exams in every district. The members of the outfit had mobilized the drive of identifying the toppers and bringing them to Chennai to meet Vijay. The toppers have arrived along with the parents and they were on the seventh heaven over meeting Vijay.
As the meet has made a splash across the state, every development of it was closely watched. Interestingly, Vijay drove his car and reached the venue at around 10.30 am on Saturday amidst a sea of people. When he entered the venue hall, the toppers and fans cheered his name as they welcomed him for what has become the first-of-its-kind stage for the actor. Vijay sported a new look and greeted the toppers as he conferred them a certificate of appreciation for their achievements.
It was reported that Vijay will deliver a brief speech before conferring the awards to the students. His speech has drawn attention as it has reflected his political aspirations. From mentioning the names of the leaders like Dr Ambedkar, Periyar, and Kamarajar to urging the students to speak against the prevailing vote-for-money formula, the actor has certainly turned heads.
By citing that addressing this event has given him an additional responsibility, he said that a dialogue from the movie 'Asuran', though he didn't name the movie, was the vital reason why this meeting is organized. Reciting the dialogue 'They will take away your land, they will snatch away your money, but they can't take away your education', Vijay said that the dialogue has affected him.
"I have been thinking for long to do something for education and I think it's the time for that", he added. Expressing his gratitude to the teachers and the members of his outfit for identifying the toppers, Vijay spoke about the importance of complete education and the importance of character. He further advised the students not to forgo their self-discipline and self-identities.
Citing about the growth of fake news on social media, Vijay said that such fake news spreaders have hidden agenda and that students have to analyze what should be consumed from them. "For doing such analysis, you should read beyond your textbooks, you should study about the leaders." Making a strong political touch, Vijay asked the students to study about Dr Ambedkar, Periyar, and Kamarajar. Giving a takeaway to the students, he asked the students to take the good things and get rid of the bad aspects.
Vijay further said, "You are the voters of tomorrow. You are going to vote for new and good leaders. But, we are poking our own eyes with our hands, by getting money for votes. Consider a politician giving Rs 1000 for a voter in a constituency that has 1.5 lakh voters, he would give Rs 15 crore. If he can give Rs 15 crore, how much could he have earned before. I wish that the students should be taught about this in their education system."
"Each and every student in Tamil Nadu should urge their parents not to get money for votes. Just give a try and if you tell them, it will definitely happen because you are going to become first time voters in the coming years. The reason why I am connecting this is when this happen, your education system will get complete." Vijay added. Giving a final touch to his speech, the actor requested the toppers to spend time with the students who had failed in the board exams and encourage them.
"Give them (the failed students) the strength, teach them about how easy is to clear the exams, and if such failed people get succeed through the strength you gave them, it will be a gift for me from you", Vijay further added. The actor's speech at a high time of his move to set a political course has been going viral. The event has been making headlines from across and beyond the borders and opened a sharp speculation about his political venture ahead of the Tamil Nadu assembly polls 2026, although he didn't spill the beans on his political entry.
