Vijayakanth is hospitalized in Chennai...Here's what DMDK had to say!

DMDK Chief Vijayakanth has on Wednesday moved to a private hospital in Chennai after he complained of breathing difficulties. The 68-year-old actor turned politician wasn't active in politics for the past few years owing to the ailments and he was tested positive for the COVID-19 viral infection last year. The sudden hospitalization had shocked the party members with several people expressing their wishes to the leader for a speedy recovery.

The party has however asserted that the hospitalization will be for a normal check-up and Vijayakanth will be discharged in a day or two. According to reports, Vijayakanth has been admitted to the MIOT Hospital at 3 am on Wednesday after he complained of breathing difficulties. He has been getting monitored by a team of doctors and the party members are thronging at the hospital.

While the hospital is yet to release its official statement, the DMDK has released a statement in which it has said, "DMDK Chief Captain Vijayakanth is admitted to a private hospital in Chennai for routine medical check-ups. Currently, the hospital has informed us that Captain is in good health. They (doctors) have said that Vijayakanth will be discharged and he will return home in a day or two."

The party has also appealed to the party members not to believe in the hearsays about Vijayakanth's health condition. The reports say that the actor turned politician will also be tested for the COVID-19 viral infection. Last year, both Vijayakanth and his wife Premalatha Vijayakanth had tested positive for the pandemic and they were getting treated at the MIOT Hospital in Manapakkam, Chennai.

Vijayakanth has already been suffering from comorbidities including liver and kidney-related ailments. The couple had later recovered from the pandemic and Vijayakanth was lastly seen in the public space recently during the election campaigns for the 2021 Tamil Nadu assembly polls. His party has formed an alliance with TTV Dhinakaran's AMMK and contested in the polls.

While Vijayakanth didn't contest in the polls, his wife Premalatha stood in the Virudhachalam constituency. However, she had lost the race to the candidate of the DMK alliance. It must be noted that DMDK had contested 60 seats but hasn't won even a single seat. The party has been trailing for the past few years due to Vijayakanth's dormant state.
