Both Viduthalai: Part 1 and Pathu Thala, two highly-anticipated films in the Tamil film industry, opened in the United Kingdom on the same day, creating intense competition at the box office. Despite the fact that both Pathu Thala and Viduthalai - Part 1 were huge successes with audiences and critics alike, the former has taken the box office lead.
Recent reports indicated that Viduthalai - Part 1, starring Vijay Sethupathi and Soori, and directed by Vetrimaaran, has earned £52,624 in four days, while Pathu Thala, starring Simbu and Gautham Karthik, and directed by Obeli N. Krishna, has earned £51,311. The difference is small, but it demonstrates that Viduthalai - Part 1 was well received in the UK.
Filmmaker Jeyamohan adapted his short story "Thunaivan" into the political thriller Viduthalai: Part 1. The story follows Soori, a police officer tasked with solving a string of homicides committed by an anonymous assassin (Vijay Sethupathi). Bhavani Sre, Rajiv Menon, and Gautham Vasudev Menon also star in the film and play important roles.
The film's compelling story, stellar acting, gorgeous visuals, and spot-on casting have all earned it high marks. Soori, usually cast in comedic roles, shows remarkable range in this film by delivering a dramatic and emotionally charged performance. The film Pathu Thala is a reimagining of the Kannada smash Mufti, which featured the talents of Shivarajkumar and Sriimurali.
The film is an action drama that focuses on the tensions between a police officer (Gautham Karthik) and a criminal organisation (Simbu). Starring alongside them in pivotal roles are Priya Bhavani Shankar, Kalaiyarasan, and Teejay Arunasalam. The film's presentation, music, and performances have all received high marks.
Pathu Thala earned Rs 30 crores around on Monday in theatres in Tamil Nadu, while Viduthalai: Part 1 had an incredible opening of Rs 17 crore on day 4. The 50-crore mark will likely be reached by both films soon. The sequel to this year's Viduthalai, titled simply "Part 2," will hit theatres presumably later this year.
