The Tamil film industry is witnessing a new wave of OTT deals, with two of its biggest stars, Kamal Haasan and Thalapathy Vijay, leading the way. Their upcoming films have reportedly fetched record-breaking prices for their digital rights, making them the most sought-after films for streaming platforms.

According to sources, Kamal Haasan’s next film, tentatively titled KH233, has been sold to Netflix for a whopping Rs 125 crore. This is said to be the highest amount ever paid for a Tamil film just for OTT rights. The film, which marks the 233rd film in Haasan’s illustrious career, is directed by H Vinoth, who is known for his socially relevant films like Theeran Adhigaram Ondru and Sadhuranga Vettai. The film is produced by Haasan and R Mahendran under their Raaj Kamal Films International banner.

On the other hand, Thalapathy Vijay’s upcoming film, titled Leo, has also bagged a mega deal for its satellite, digital and music rights. The film, which is directed by Atlee and produced by Seven Screen Studio, has been sold for a staggering Rs 220 crore.

The first promo of KH233, which was released on July 4, 2023, has created a lot of buzz among the fans and the media. The promo features the silhouette of Haasan holding a torch, which is also the symbol of his political party, Makkal Needhi Maiam. The tagline of the film reads, “Rise to rule”, hinting that the film will have political undertones. The film is expected to release in theatres in 2024, before streaming on Netflix.

Both KH233 and Leo are eagerly awaited by the fans of Kamal Haasan and Thalapathy Vijay, who are considered as the icons of Tamil cinema. Their films ae not only known for their entertainment value, but also for their social messages and mass appeal.
