While, on one hand, the top political rivals have been boxing to sweep the rural local bodies to enhance the stronghold, on the other hand, the election results have been revealing that the age doesn't matter for serving the people and so does the political base and political identity as the results had given the baton of power to the young-aged students to the backward and the elderly people and thanks to the voters for upholding their commitments and reserving the place for them in the prevailing political grounds.
This season of the Local Body Elections had many surprises, unexpected, and unanticipated elements before and after the polls as the local body polls had rolled out with three years delay with the aberrant and volatile developments and the legal battle between the state top political parties and after the completion of the two-phased local body polls, the results have been exposing the heat between the parties to register their victories. Keeping the political heat aside, the results have notable revelations of the victories of young and old independent candidates.
The election results declared on Thursday had indicated the victories of two young women. A 21-year-old college student Jayasandhiya Rani has won for the post of Panchayat President of K.N.Thotti in Krishnagiri district. Jayasandhiya Rani, who is pursuing her bachelor's degree in Business Administration in Karnataka, has got 1,170 votes while her opponent ended with 950 votes following which she has been declared as winner with the margin of 220 votes. She has become the youngest woman village panchayat president in the state.
In Tiruvarur district, 22-year-old Subitha, who is also pursuing her bachelor's in Business Administration, has been elected President of Poosalangudi panchayat in Thiruthuraipoondi union. The reports say that Subitha had organized various students' federations and she is also a member of All India Students' Federation (AISF) and she has secured 499 votes. After her victory, she said that she has been aspired to bring much development in her village during her tenure.
On the other hand, A 79-year-old elder woman Veerammal from Madurai district has won the election and declared as the President of Panchayat. It's the third time that she has hit the grounds of the campaign as she had lost the previous ones and for this time, she contested for the post of the President of Arittapatti Panchayat in Madurai district and she had defeated the seven other candidates with the margin of 195 votes and through her victory, she got a place in history as she has become the elderly Panchayat president in the state. In Namakkal district, a 30-year-old Riya, a transgender candidate of DMK party has won in the Union Councillor election in the margin of 954 votes and she has become the first transgender to bank the victory in the state's local body elections.
Adding inline, Saraswathi, a sanitary worker based in Kansapuram village of Virudhunagar has become the President of that Panchayat and the recent reports say that the counting of the votes for the posts of all the rural bodies has concluded in 24 districts out of 27 districts and the final results can be expected by Friday evening and the second-day results had revealed that the opposition party has been recording with leading victories than the ruling party.
