Although the state government of Tamil Nadu has been installing the preventive measures and precautions to tackle the Coronavirus as per the directives issued by the Central government, the doctors who have been monitoring the developments are avowing that the state government hasn't implemented adequate measures to contain and to combat the novel Coronavirus, which has attained the transformation from being the Wuhan epicentric virus to the global pandemic.
On one hand, the Tamil Nadu government has been rolling out the awareness to contain the spread, issuing stern warnings against hoarding the face masks and hand sanitizers, ordering to close the malls, theaters, schools, colleges, bars, tourist spots, and private establishments to avoid the mass gatherings, on the other hand, the doctors say that the state government has done testing for only 88 patients who had symptoms. According to our sources, Kerala has tested more than 2000 people concerning the spread, Karnataka has tested 750 people, Uttar Pradesh has tested 300 people while Maharashtra and Telangana had tested 850 people each in its respective territories whereas Tamil Nadu has conducted the test for 88 patients.
Of these 88, about 19 people have shown positive symptoms for the virus after which Tamil Nadu Health Minister Vijayabaskar stated that one case has been tested positive for the virus. A former official of the Health Department in the state said that if 19 people out of 88 have shown symptoms, there is a possibility that many cases would be reported if the government enhances its testing mechanisms. As far as testing is concerned, India currently has 60 testing facilities for Coronavirus across the country and these facilities have the capabilities of testing the samples of more than 5000 patients per day. However, it has been reported that these facilities are currently been testing only 60 to 70 samples a day.
It's relatively small in numbers while compared to the virus-hit countries like China and South Korea. This novel Coronavirus has its epicenter in the Chinese city of Wuhan and after getting reported with soaring high cases, the Chinese government has installed thousands of temporary facilities and testing centers across the country at the easy reach to the citizens to contain the spread whereas South Korea has enhanced its mechanisms with the capability of testing 10,000 people per day. Testing only 60 to 70 people a day in a country like India that has a huge population would less likely help the nation to contain and combat the virus.
The Tamil Nadu government has set up four testing centers for the Coronavirus and Health Minister Vijayabaskar has asserted that the state would successfully combat the virus as it has already been combated some of the epidemics in previous years. However, some of the health experts stated that the current Tamil Nadu government and its previous one headed by Jayalalithaa had been showing the cases of epidemics in fewer numbers under the guise of reducing the panic and to prevent the government from getting criticized. It was reminiscent of the episodes of tackling previous such epidemics.
A doctor who works at a private hospital in Chennai told us that about 25 people have been infected by the virus as per his knowledge and the doctors had directed them to get treated under home-quarantine with the view of lowering the numbers of the affected cases and questioned the government on why it has only sent the samples of 100 people while it says that it has been observing about 2000 people and most of the doctors have been divulging the same reactions filled with warnings and awareness. The government should neither create the panic nor should conceal the facts.
