The theatre industry in Tamil Nadu has been facing some challenges recently, as the president of the theater owners association, Tirupur Subramaniam, has resigned amidst controversy over the special screenings of 'Tiger 3'. Subramaniam, who owns a prominent theater in Tirupur, announced his decision on Thursday, citing personal reasons. He also expressed his gratitude to everyone who supported him during his tenure.
Subramaniam's decision to step down follows a wave of discontent from both ardent fans and authorities, triggered by the early morning screenings of the Bollywood blockbuster 'Tiger 3,' featuring Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif, over the Diwali weekend.
The palpable disappointment among Tamil cinema enthusiasts stemmed from the apparent favoritism shown towards the Hindi film, particularly as certain Tamil productions like 'Jailer' and 'Leo' were denied similar screening privileges. It is imperative to highlight the skepticism expressed by numerous netizens regarding the legitimacy of these exclusive showings.
The district administration, too, took cognizance of the situation and issued a notice to Subramaniam's theater, seeking a comprehensive explanation for the perceived breach. Undertaking a thorough investigation, the Tahsildar meticulously examined the circumstances and subsequently submitted a detailed report to the Tirupur District Collector.
Earlier in the year, the Tamil Nadu government had banned early morning shows in the state after the Pongal clash between Vijay's 'Varisu' and Ajith's 'Thunivu'. Subramaniam's resignation has left the theater owners association in a state of uncertainty, as he was a key figure in the industry and had a strong rapport with the film fraternity.
He had also played a vital role in resolving the issues between the producers and the exhibitors during the pandemic. However, his exit has raised questions about the future of the association and the theater business in Tamil Nadu. It's important to acknowledge the concerns of the fans and the authorities regarding the special screenings of 'Tiger 3', and to work towards finding a solution that benefits everyone involved in the industry.
