The exit has also brought Kohli's captaincy era to a heartbreaking end. During the ongoing season, Kohli had announced that he will relinquish his T20 captaincy both in the IPL and the Indian cricket.
"A disappointing end, but we can hold our heads high. Thank you to all the fans, management, & the support staff for your constant support", Kohli wrote.
Kohli owned the tag of being the third captain to lead India in 200 international matches while Mohammed Azharuddin and MS Dhoni being the first and second respectively.
"I have given everything to the Team during my time as T20 Captain and I will continue to do so for the T20 Team as a batsman moving forward", Kohli said.
The current edition of the IPL will be resuming in the United Arab Emirates on September 19 and will run till October 15, two days ahead of the commencement of the T20 World Cup.
