Moments after Shinde took over the baton, Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated him. Taking to Twitter, Modi wrote, "I would like to congratulate Shri Eknath Shinde Ji on taking oath as Maharashtra CM."
When Fadnavis was asked to take over the baton as the next Chief Minister, he had refused to accept the offer and affirmed that he will stay out of the government.
The surprise development has drawn huge attention and with the backing from the BJP MLAs, Shinde is all set to become the Chief Minister of Maharashtra for the first time.
It must be noted that recently, a BJP MLA in Maharashtra has announced that the party will write 75,000 letters to the Chief Minister to remind him of the year of Indian Independence.
Rane, who has been serving as the Union Minister for Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises, had become the first Central Minister to get arrested in twenty years.
