The award will now be known as the Award for Best Film Promoting National Social and Environmental Values.

However, the film was completely ignored by the National Awards jury, which did not nominate it in any category.

The NFA awards were established in 1954, and have evolved over the years to reflect the diversity and excellence of Indian cinema.

As Suriya and Soorarai Pottru have made quintessential achievements, the actor has been flooded with wishes and commendations. 

Suriya, who played the lead role as Nedumaran in the movie, received the National Award for best actor for his spectacular performance. 

Kongara is now decorating a prestigious National Award for her masterpiece Soorarai Pottru, which took more awards than any other movie in the recently announced 68th National Film Awards. 

While the Tamil movie 'Soorarai Pottru' has won the award of Best Feature Film, Suriya, who played the lead role in the movie, has won the award for the Best Actor along with Bollywood's Ajay Devgn.

On Friday, Suriya penned a heart-touching statement in which he thanked his fans and well-wishers, besides commending the artists who won the National Awards.
