Major Mukund Varadarajan, an Indian Army officer who was awarded the Ashoka Chakra, the highest peacetime gallantry award, for his valour in a counterterrorism operation in Jammu and Kashmir in 2014.

The identified mortal remains were Subedar Rajendra Prasad of Jhunjhunu, Rajasthan, Rifleman Lakshmanan D of Madurai, Tamil Nadu, Rifleman Manoj Kumar of Faridabad, Haryana, and Rifleman Nishant Malik of Hissar, Haryana. Reports claim that soldiers were killed in an unexpected suicide attack by terrorists when engaged in security and patrolling.
