After a high-level meeting of ministers and officials, Chief Minister MK Stalin said that Tamil Nadu may get 35 to 75 percent more rain.

According to the meteorological department, Chennai recorded the third-highest rainfall in 72 years on Tuesday - November 1.

After recording a surprise spell on Monday, Chennai is bracing up to witness heavy rainfall for the next three days and besides Chennai, several parts of Tamil Nadu would also record downpours.

The incident has triggered a massive outrage against the government which is already facing public outcry for its apathy in addressing the crisis.

In the midst of witnessing the worst times, the rivals BJP and Congress have found time to play their political game blaming each other for how Bangalore is today.

The Regional Meteorological Centre in Chennai has predicted that the month of September is likely to get more intense spells.

On Sunday, Chennai and its suburbs had rainy dusk with incessant rainfall and thunderstorms. The sudden downpour has caused major disruption and several areas in the city were waterlogged.

The country's premier weather watchdog has said that this pattern of rainfall would remain from August 1- Monday to August 4 - Thursday. 

The city has reported three deaths on Thursday due to heavy rainfall and all three had died due to electrocution. The deceased include two women and a young man.

Several areas of the city have recorded rainfall and have been experiencing major disruption as the sequel of the inundation.
