After recording a surprise spell on Monday, Chennai is bracing up to witness heavy rainfall for the next three days and besides Chennai, several parts of Tamil Nadu would also record downpours. On Tuesday- September 27, India Meteorological Department (IMD) spelt the warning for the state and said that Chennai and its suburbs would witness rains and thunderstorms till Friday - September 30.
IMD has predicted that in the next 48 hours, Chennai would record moderate rainfall and thunderstorms with lightning. According to the national weather watchdog, the rainfall is caused due to cyclonic circulation in the lower part of the upper atmosphere over Tamil Nadu. Several coastal and northern districts will receive heavy rainfall for the next three days.
As per the IMD bulletin that was released on Tuesday, heavy rainfall will occur at the isolated places over the districts of Pudukottai, Tiruchirapalli, Ariyalur, Cuddalore, Kancheepuram, Nagapattinam, Thanjavur, Thiruvarur, Perambalur, Vellore, Villupuram, Kallakurichi, Chengalpattu, Tirupattur, Ranipet, and Mayiladhuturai. Along with these districts, Karaikal and Puducherry also received rainfall on Tuesday.
On Wednesday, heavy rainfall will occur at isolated places over Cuddalore, Kancheepuram, Nagapattinam, Tiruvallur, Thanjavur, Thiruvarur, Tiruvannamalai, Villupuram, Kallakurichi, Chengalpattu, Mayiladhuthurai, Karaikal, and Puducherry. On Thursday and Friday, moderate rain and thunderstorms with lightning will occur over several parts of the state.
