By swearing-in, Elangovan has succeeded his younger son Thirumahan Everaa, the Erode East Congress MLA, who died on January 4 at the age of 46 due to cardiac arrest. 

By securing over 1 lakh votes, Elangovan has scripted a new milestone in the history of the Erode East constituency, which was formed in 2008.

It is pertinent to note that Elangovan has surpassed the margin kept by his son Thirumahan Everaa in the 2021 assembly polls from Erode East.

The new political game for Elangovan is to replace his deceased son Thirumahan Everaa as the Erode East MLA and to resume where he had left off. 

While the official result will be announced on Thursday afternoon, it is most likely that Elangovan will triumph the race and the Congress will retain its numbers in the assembly. 

The voters at the constituency were queued up before the polling stations to elect their new representative to the state assembly after the demise of Congress MLA Thirumahan Everaa.
