The Center has invited the opinions and suggestions from the public on the draft and the deadline for the suggestions was fixed to June 30, and later the deadline was extended till August 11.
The draft has been dubbed to poses a severe threat as, if enacted, would nullify the rights of people and permits the industries to begin or expand the projects without the environmental clearances.
Earlier, the group of 110 activists, environmentalists, and experts from Tamil Nadu had written to Union Minister Prakash Javadekar and said that the EIA 2020 draft legitimizes the damage for nature and undermines democracy.
