EIA 2020: Rahul Gandhi demands the withdrawal of the draft! Here's what he said

Senior Congress leader and former party's President Rahul Gandhi has reiterated his voice against the center's draft Environment Impact Assessment (EIA) 2020 and demanded that the draft must be withdrawn and discarded to prevent the environmental destruction.

Rahul Gandhi has been slamming the Center against the draft and he further called the people on Sunday to protest against the EIA 2020 by citing that it was dangerous and the long term consequences would be catastrophic if the draft goes ahead for the final notification.

The Congress leader took to Twitter on Monday and said that the aim of EIA 2020 was the loot of the nation. He further stated the new draft of EIA is another dreadful example of what the BJP government has been doing for its select suit-boot friends who loot the resources of the country and he demanded the EIA draft must be withdrawn to stop the loot of the nation and the environmental destruction.

Rahul Gandhi has charged the center through the hashtag #WithdrawEIA2020 and in a Facebook post, he said the EIA 2020 is not only disgraceful but dangerous. He further added that the EIA 2020 would not only have the potential to go against and reverse the hard-fought gains that have been won over the years in the battle to protect the environment, but the draft also would unleash widespread environmental destruction and mayhem across India.

The Center's draft EIA 2020, which was proposed in March amid the COVID-19 outbreak, had drawn massive flak across the nation and became yet another controversial policies of the Center that has largely been feared to go in favor of industries by nullifying the rights of people and destructing the environment and habitats.

The EIA 2020 would limit and repeal public participation and their voices in implementing and expanding the industrial projects and the draft proposes to give environmental clearances to the projects and industries without public opinion and impact assessment on the environment. Various stakeholders including the experts, activists, and environmentalists had voiced against the draft and urged Union Minister for Environment Prakash Javedekar to withdraw the draft which legitimizes the damage to nature and undermines democracy.

The Center has invited the opinions and suggestions from the public on the draft and the deadline for the suggestions was fixed to June 30, and later the deadline was extended till August 11.
