Signifying the recent spike of covid cases, Vijayakanth said the Tamil Nadu government should take serious action to control the spread of corona and create awareness among the people about the prevention of coronavirus.
On the other hand, the Indian SARS-CoV-2 Genomics Consortium (INSACOG) has said that the Covid-19 Omicron variant has reached the stage of the community spread in the country.
So far, four states - Karnataka (2 cases), Gujarat (1 case), Rajasthan (9 cases), and Maharashtra (8 cases) and the national capital region (1 case) had reported the Omicron cases.
The warning has come parallelly to India's major leap in the Covid-19 vaccination drive with the country preparing to vaccinate minors above the age of 12, which will begin in September.
The latest forecast has said that the third wave won't be worse than the second wave and the cases may cross 1.50 lakh per day during the peak of the third wave.
Vijayabaskar had reminded the warning of experts including AIIMS Director Dr Randeep Guleria about the possible emergence of the third wave in the country.
The health experts warn that the third wave could target the younger population and it's imperative to keep a tight grip on the existing containment measures to combat it.
