Wistron, a significant player in India's smartphone manufacturing sector, currently employs over 10,000 workers at its facility.

WhatsApp had recommended its users to update their device or its operating system till the date to continue using the app's services.

The plant is run by a Taiwan-based company and it manufactures iPhones. Along with iPhones,  Wistron also manufactures IT products for Lenovo and Microsoft.

The significant development of the company's pick of Chennai over China has been dubbed as a win for the Center's initiatives of 'Make in India' and 'Aatma Nirbhar India'.
